Neil and May Van Uum opened the first Joseph-Beth store in Lexington, Kentucky in November 1986. The original bookstore began with 37,000 titles in a 6,500 square foot space. This space soon proved inadequate, so plans were made to move to a new location. Expansion and rennovation, and today, the 40,000 square foot bookstore, located in the very heart of the Lexington Green Mall, provides customers with 2 stories of books and sidelines, expanded children's and music departments, and a full service restaurant overlooking Lexington Green Lake.

Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light, and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale are Lexington's-own locally brewed beers. Located in the heart of downtown, Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company has been creating award-winning beers since 2000. Kentucky Ale was released that same year with Kentucky Light not far behind in 2003. Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale completed Kentucky's Triple Crown of Beers with its introduction in 2006.
