Gregory Partain
“He is a sterling-silver player. He doesn’t glitter; he gleams” (Lexington Herald Leader). “This is my kind of pianism: strong, intelligent, unshowy, authoritative and deeply satisfying” (Terry Teachout). In his twenty-three years on the concert stage, Transylvania University professor Gregory Partain has appeared as recitalist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist throughout the United States, and overseas in Germany, Poland, Russia, Greece, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. Acclaimed for his compelling performances of a wide-ranging repertoire, Partain will play harpsichord solos and two major masterworks for piano (Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata and Ravel’s Sonatine). He will also be joined by three of Central Kentucky’s finest musicians--Transylvania U. colleagues Rachel Cox (soprano), Merrilee Elliott (flute), and Clyde Beavers (cello)—in a Baroque music feast.
